2024 International Acoustics & Sound Reinforcement Conference - Keynotes

Conference Keynotes:

Day 1

Scott Sugden
Director of Product Management, Electronics & Software, L-Acoustics

Biography

Fourteen-year L-Acoustics veteran Scott Sugden, Director of Product Management for Electronics & Software, is a key driver of the success and growth of L-Acoustics products and technologies; and is responsible for bringing innovative and ground-breaking L-Acoustics products to fruition.

A Wisconsin native, Scott studied Physics at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, then toured with pop, rock, and theater shows worldwide, working on system and site designs for several well-known festivals. Working closely with creators, FOH Engineers, sound designers, and the L-Acoustics Certified Provider Network during his tenure at L-Acoustics, Scott has supported the success of a diverse range of projects such as Coachella, the Hollywood Bowl, The Book of Mormon, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and more.

His synergism has been a critical agent in facilitating the first L-ISA US performances for Bon Iver, ALT-J, Lorde, and others, helping to bring the power of L-ISA Hyperreal Sound too excited and immersive-hungry fans all over the continent.

A knowledgeable and engaging presenter, you’ve probably seen Scott on various L-Acoustics video tutorials and leading demos and presentations for AES, InfoComm, ISE and conferences around the globe.

Day 3

Rozenn Nicol
Research Engineer, Acoustics, Orange Labs

Biography

Rozenn Nicol is a researcher in Acoustics at Orange Labs in France, working on the enhancement of telecommunication services through innovative 3D sound technologies such as binaural, WFS and Ambisonics. Today she is also studying acoustic devices in the context of IoT (Internet of Things) and connected objects. After a sound engineering school, Ecole Louis Lumière, she graduated as a CNAM (Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers) engineer in Physics and Acoustics, before defending a PhD thesis on WFS applied to telepresence and videoconferencing at Le Mans University in 1999.

Her work has resulted in numerous scientific publications (book chapters, papers and conferences), including an AES monograph on Binaural Technology. She also holds a number of patents in the field of spatial audio. She was involved in the French collaborative project, BiLi (Binaural Listening), together with Radio France, France Télévisions and IRCAM. In 2014, she was awarded the Médaille Blondel of the
SEE, and in 2016, her pioneering research on Binaural has been honoured with the title of AES Fellow.

Day 2

Mark Kelly
Associate Professor, Danish Technical University

Biography

Associate Professor Mark Kelly has been at the Danish Technical University [DTU] for the past 15 years, working in meteorological sections within the department of Wind Energy there. His academic career began with outdoor sound propagation research at the National Center for Physical Acoustics and corresponding master’s degree from the University from Mississippi; this was followed by a PhD and post-doc in meteorology at the Pennsylvania State University, where he focused on large-eddy simulation of hurricane boundary layers affected by sea spray and waves.

At DTU he has conducted research on topics bridging statistical fluid dynamics to applied meteorology, where he has also adapted his theoretical findings and developed forms for use in wind engineering. Areas of advancement include universal and statistical wind profiles affected by stability and terrain; probabilistic atmospheric flow representation and flow metrics for application (to wind energy and sound propagation); uncertainty quantification; atmospheric boundary layer dynamics; atmospheric turbulence; wind turbine noise.

He has created and taught graduate-level courses at DTU and Copenhagen University on wind resources, applied micrometeorology, and atmospheric turbulence; advised 7 PhD students and numerous M.Sci. students; contributed to creating and updating several IEC standards; and actively worked on peer review for more than 20 journals spanning acoustics, meteorology, and fluid dynamics.
