About the Role:

As the Director of Acoustic Systems Engineering, you will lead the regional team in Europe, ensure program deliveries toward OEMs and secure the right technical solutions matching brand and customer needs.

Your Team:

In this role you will have supervisory responsibility over the Acoustics Engineering team across Europe, with about 30 direct and indirect reports.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee processes of sound systems definitions, development, and execution of system parametrization for the highest international standards
  • Ensure the right staffing for projects and maintain people development and trainings required
  • Manage department’s budget and efforts across all customer and internal programs
  • Maintain Harman’s industry leadership in consistent delivery of excellent technology and keeping highest level of operational discipline
  • Manage and refine the Acoustic development process in line with the global standards
  • Support innovation, concepts maturation, platforms, and tools by effective collaboration with the innovation teams
  • Collaborate with Product Management on developing the right and cost optimized solutions for Harman’s customers
  • Provide functional input to Transducers, Software and Hardware departments on technology roadmaps
  • Support business units with Acoustic systems strategy creation and acquisition of new customers
  • Active participation in establishing sound quality targets and vision for all HARMAN audio brands
  • Ensure HARMAN audio systems achieving predefined Sound Quality targets through functional expertise and establishing supporting processes
  • Support Marketing and public communications events (for Customers and Media)
  • Represent HARMAN on Acoustics related international scientific conventions and conferences through publishing papers and active participation (committee-level involvement)
  • Hire, mentor, develop, and retain a competent and engaged Acoustics engineering team and organization to meet personal, professional, and corporate objectives
  • Foster and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment to motivate staff while driving process improvement through innovative solutions
  • Ensure staff has the proper equipment, tools, training, and resources to accomplish assigned tasks within defined processes and procedures, while adhering to appropriate budgets
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external suppliers, responsible for non-core development activities and/or providing temporary capacity

What You Need:

  • Master’s Degree Acoustics Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Automotive Acoustics product development that includes:
  • Broad experience in developing or leading development of complex solutions
  • 5 years of experience successfully managing Acoustics engineering development organization
  • Excellent knowledge of automotive audio system architectures
  • Advanced knowledge in transducer design, DSP, audio amplifiers and psychoacoustics
  • Outstanding listening skills and knowledge of sound design principles
  • Experience in research and development demonstrated through a proven track record of publications in relevant top-tier journals/conferences and through patents or patent applications
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry requirements
  • Experience in leading and coaching large multi-site teams
  • Ability to define individual goals corresponding to general strategy and to integrate people, to resolve conflicts, broad intercultural experience, excellent communication skills
  • Proven key leadership traits and skills:  collaborative work style, integrity, creativity, objectivity, assertiveness, effectiveness, responsibility, honesty, reliability, strong business acumen
  • Passionate about audio, acoustics, and innovation
  • Be willing to travel up to 30%, domestic and international travel
  • Be willing to work in an office in Garching, Germany
