[Huddersfield, UK – July 13, 2023] – The AES International Conference on Spatial and Immersive Audio, one of the most anticipated events in the audio industry and research communities, is delighted to announce its three esteemed keynote speakers and release the preliminary program. With a focus on spatial and immersive audio technologies, the conference, held August 23-25, 2023 at the University of Huddersfield, UK, aims to explore cutting-edge advancements, research, and creative applications in this rapidly evolving field.

Spatial audio, often synonymous with immersive audio, has gained significant traction in recent years with the rise of multichannel/object-based audio and binaural audio technologies. It has become increasingly accessible to the public through commercial services available on streaming platforms and mobile devices. However, there still is plenty potential in spatial audio to provide a truly immersive experience that remains largely unexplored.

To address this and maximize the industrial and societal impacts of spatial audio, the AES International Conference on Spatial and Immersive Audio invites audio professionals, researchers, enthusiasts, and beyond to gather at the prestigious University of Huddersfield. Over the course of three days, participants will have the opportunity to engage in workshops, witness captivating demonstrations, delve into peer-reviewed and express papers, and engage in invaluable in-person networking sessions.

The conference is proud to present its three keynote speakers who are renowned experts in their respective fields:

  • Andrew Scheps: Andrew is a highly acclaimed audio engineer and mixer, having worked with some of the biggest bands and legendary artists in the world. His impressive roster includes Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, U2, and many more. With multiple Grammy Awards to his name, Andrew’s contributions to rock, indie, and popular music have been widely recognized. His recent ventures into Dolby Atmos Music demonstrate his commitment to pushing the boundaries of spatial audio.
  • Natasha Barrett: Natasha is an internationally renowned composer known for her innovative approach to sound and her utilization of 3D sound technology. Her works span concert compositions, public space sound-art installations, and multimedia interactive music. With over 20 international awards, including the Nordic Council Music Prize and multiple honors from the Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Awards, Natasha continues to push the boundaries of electroacoustic and acousmatic music.
  • Stefania Serafin: Stefania is a distinguished Professor of Sonic Interaction Design at Aalborg University in Copenhagen. She is a prominent figure in the field of sound and music computing, leading various projects and initiatives. Her expertise lies in creating multi-sensory experiences, and she has been instrumental in developing the Sound and Music Computing Master program. With a background in computer models and musical applications, Stefania brings a unique perspective to the conference.
