The Accessibility Subcommittee will create guidelines and best practices to ensure that all AES programming is fully accessible and welcoming to those with visible and hidden disabilities.

The Audio Engineering Society announces the creation of a new Accessibility Subcommittee as part of its ongoing efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The AES invites members with any type of disability, as well as non-disabled allies, from across all audio disciplines to join and help create a more inclusive AES.

The AES values the unique perspectives and skills of engineers with disabilities, including those with mental or physical illness, sensory differences, mobility limitations, rare disease, neurodivergence, and other conditions. According to the World Health Organization, over a billion people worldwide live with some form of disability, representing 16% of the global population.

The Accessibility Subcommittee, as a division of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, will create guidelines and best practices to ensure that all AES programming is fully accessible and welcoming to those with visible and hidden disabilities. By fostering a culture of accessibility within the AES, the Subcommittee hopes to encourage the same in the recording and audio industries.

To join the Accessibility subcommittee, AES members can reach out to membership@aes.org.
