AES New York Section – Saturday Night Live 50 years of Audio,Then and Now
Join the AES NY section for a deep dive on Saturday Night Live – 50 years of Audio, Then and Now. Hosted by Engineer and NY Section Co-Chair Roey Shamir at VoxPod NYC and Buttons Sound 230 W39th Street, 2nd Floor – one of NYC’s premiere Voice Recording, and Post Production facilities. Doors open at 5PM EST. Event at 6PM. This event MAY be streamed live on AES NY Facebook group around 6PM that day.

Joel Spector:
BA in Communication Arts and Sciences, Queens College, City University of New York, 1967.
Staff Audio Control Engineer for NBC Television 1965-2001. Programs include 33 years on the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade; 16 seasons on Saturday Night Live; and many years on Christmas at Rockefeller
Center; Miss America Pageant; and Late Night with David Letterman. He has received two Emmy®
nominations — for Hot Hero Sandwich (NBC 1979) and From The Top: Live at Carnegie Hall (PBS 2009).
Though technically “retired” he continued his NBC connection with the Macy’s Parade, NBC Nightly News
and NBC’s coverage of the Olympics and political conventions. As a free-lancer, he also continued his 30-year
association with the Tony Awards as music playback engineer, and occasional work on other programs.
His two years active duty in the United States Naval Reserve were as a “Plank Owner” (original crew member)
aboard the then-new aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CVA-67) where he helped coordinate the redesign
of the shipboard radio and television facilities, trained studio crew members and directed many TV broadcasts.
He is a Life Member of the Audio Engineering Society, having been Chair of the New York Section; a Life
Member of SMPTE; a former member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; and was an
Associate Member of NARAS/The Recording Academy.
Bob Palladino
Bob Palladino has been an Audio Engineer at NBC since 1980. He was the A1 on “The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder, NBC Nightly News, and Christmas at Rockefeller Center. He has also worked on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Football Night in America, and the Olympics. He started on Saturday Night Live as Music Mixer in 1985, and has been the Production Mixer since 1986. He has also filled in on occasion on many other shows along the way.
Josiah Gluck:
The current 2024-25 season of “Saturday Night Live.” is Josiah’s 32nd year at the show and 29th as Co-Music Engineer.
He won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series or Special” for music mixing on the SNL 40th Anniversary Special,” and was also nominated for an Emmy for “SNL” for the previous two seasons.
A condensed roster of artists he has mixed on air would include Raye, Chris Stapleton, Mk.Gee Prince, Brandi Carlile, The 1975, Coldplay, Adele, Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Sir Paul McCartney, Margo Price, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, and Ed Sheeran.
Over the years Josiah has mixed music for “Night Music” in 1988 –hosted by David Sanborn and produced by Lorne Michaels.
He has also mixed music live on the air for “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,”; “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,”; “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” and “Christmas in Rockefeller Center.”
In addition to his extensive broadcast work, Josiah is equally sought after as a producer/engineer for both studio and live recordings. A three-time Grammy nominee, Josiah’s career began when he joined GRP Records as Chief Engineer and Technical Director in 1982.
