Mission Statement

The mission of the Audio Engineering Society Technical Committee on Interactive Media & Games (AESTC-IMG) is to advance the science, technology, and artistic expression of interactive media with audio. Through fostering innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing, the committee focuses on promoting cutting-edge research and development in interactive audio technologies, establishing industry standards and best practices, empowering audio professionals through education and outreach, and cultivating and connecting a global network of experts and enthusiasts. The committee promotes novel experiences while upholding ethical standards and promoting diversity and inclusion.

If you are interested in participating in the committee’s work please send an e-mail to any of the committee chairs. Please indicate in your e-mail that you are interested in the AESTC-IMG. We welcome those interested in joining the committee to attend a future committee meeting. AES and non AES members are always welcome. Please Note: You do not have to be an AES member to join this committee, however you must be an AES member to serve as Chair or Vice-Chair of the committee. The committee communicates by means of an e-mail reflector site. This committee meets approximately every 6 months at alternate European and US conventions.

Areas of Concentration

  1. Research and Development: Promoting research into cutting-edge interactive audio technologies, encompassing virtual, augmented, and extended reality, gaming, interactive installations, immersive research platforms, generative audio, multimodal interactions, and emerging media forms.
  2. Standards and Best Practices: Establishing and maintaining industry standards and best practices for interactive media audio, ensuring compatibility, quality, and accessibility for creators and consumers alike.
  3. Coordination: Working as a bridge between other AESTCs whose interests overlap in the developing realm of interactive media
  4. Education and Outreach: Providing resources and educational initiatives to empower audio professionals, students, and enthusiasts in mastering the unique challenges and opportunities of interactive media sound.
  5. Community Building: Cultivating a global network of experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts to facilitate the exchange of ideas, experiences, and solutions in interactive audio engineering.
  6. Innovation and Creativity: Encouraging the exploration of novel audio experiences and artistic expression within interactive media, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sound design and audio technology.
  7. D&I: Focused activity to encourage participation from diverse groups, uplift the community and provide resources for developing skills and networks.
