As portable audio devices grow in popularity, power consumption becomes an increasingly important metric for silicon devices. In a fast paced market such as consumer audio, radical techniques for power reduction often introduce greater risks than their potential gains. A more effective strategy utilizes proven circuit, architecture, and process techniques to reduce power consumption. These techniques were applied in the design of a digital-to-analog converter and an analog-to-digital converter, achieving 90dB dynamic range, while each consuming only 1 OmA of power.
