The different options for hardware implementation of signal processing for Direct Stream Digital signals at 2.8224MHz are discussed. A typical processing block is presented, for which implementation in FPGAs is an attractive method. A full-size PC1 card design is described which utilises 7 FPGAs for audio processing. This card has been used to perform processing for a PC-based stereo and surround mastering mixer for Super Audio CD production.
