Distortion and Directivity in a Digital Transducer Array Loudspeaker

The radiation pattern and the position-dependent distortion in a digital transducer array loudspeaker have been investigated and simulated by computer. Harmonic distortion in the sound field is significant and varies with different transducer arrangements. The directivity increases with increasing frequency and varies with the transducer selection procedure. Randomizing the selection of transducers at each sample interval improves the directivity but introduces high-frequency noise into the radiated sound field.
