Increasing sophistication of equipment and user demands an updating of test methods to insure useful test results. Amplifier test methods are investigated, with particular attention to the question of audibility of the types of distortion thus revealed. A proposal for a new test method is discussed, in particular as it reveals transient intermodulation distortion. Examples and results of tests are considered, and implications for amplifier design are drawn.
