A device for monitoring input levels to a magnetic tape recorder during recording of repetitive transients is described. The device gives a clearly visible indication whenever the instantaneous peak signal levels exceed specific values. The instrument has a frequency response of ±1/2 dB from 10 Hz to 100 kHz.
