W-Panning and O-Format, Tools for Object Spatialization

Real acoustic objects have spatial width and characteristic radiation patterns. Techniques are described for efficiently synthesizing these qualities, by encoding with spherical harmonics. This approach naturally lends itself to ambisonic reproduction, although it remains applicable to other forms of reproduction.
