Computer Aided Film Sound Editing

Film sound editing is poised to make the transition from the physical manipulation of recorded media to computer manipulation of information. This paper begins by discussing the current method of editing sound. The prototype film sound editor developed at Lucasfilm is described. The paper closes with a review of the issues in computer aided film sound editing and some future directions.
