The main objective of enhancing historical sound recordings by digital signal processing is to improve the overall quality of recordings degraded by several distortions. Whether true signal restoration or merely signal enhancement can be achieved depends heavily on the quality of the historical sound material. The aim of this paper is to describe a practical approach to the problem of restoring old acoustic recordings.
