Multitrack recording and broadcast consoles are becoming large and complex. It is increasingly difficult for the balance engineer to identify and reach the control he wants. Moreover, the task of setting and resetting a console is now formidable. The vast majority of controls on a desk can be represented for a short time on a small, assignable control panel and all setting can be transferred to and from static and dynamic memory. The audio can be in analog or digital form, but the former takes no risks, much less power, is more cost effective, and with good design, does not compromise the sound quality.
