The Use of Boundary Layer Effect Microphones in Traditional Stereo Miking Techniques

The adaptation of plate-mounted (boundary layer effect) microphones to traditional stereo techniques is explored. The emulation of Blumlein, X-Y, M-S, O.R.T.F., N.O.S., D.I.N., Faulkner-Blumlein, and binaural head configurations are discussed. The accuracy of each emulation is considered as well as subjective evaluations of the resulting stereo imagery of many of the techniques.
