Repertory theater is relatively new on the American theater scene. The unique characteristic of this kind of theater is that there is a permanent company of actors and technicians who produce plays which are performed in rotation. The technical systems (lighting, sound, and stage setting) for a repertory must be designed to accommodate every conceivable style of production and reduce time inchanging from one production set-up to another.
