There have been two major influences over speaker design in the last ten years. First, the tremendous popularity of electronic music and the consequent requirement for loudspeakers capable of handling and reproducing large amounts of power, and secondly, the popularity of closed box, infinite baffle speaker systems. Because of the basic inefficiency of these units, speakers have had to handle more power input in order to reproduce at the same level as reflex or other speaker enclosures. It is the purpose of this paper to review some of the developments of the last few years, many of which have been made necessary by the above requirements.
