Distortion measures obtained with a single sine wave (harmonic distortion), two sine waves (intermodulation distortion) and wide band noise all indicates the magnitude of the harmonics and other frequencies produced in non-linear systems, but, correlate poorly with intelligibility tests. At the present time, none of these measures is suitable for predicting relative speech intelligibility scores for a mixed group of non-linear systems. Measurements, analysis and intelligibility scores are compared for four non-linear elements.
