The assumption of a linear system is considered insufficient in evaluating the trackability of pickups. Non-linear characteristics of trackabiliity and the effects of biasing forces of 16 foreign and domestic pickups will be described, base don the following measurements: (1) trackability test by complex tones (consisting of 100 Hz large amplitude tone and 8, 10 or 12 kHz large acceleration tone) at three modulation levels; (2) bearing weights or side thrust vs. I. M. distortion characteristics.
