Normally, deficiencies of loudspeakers are constant properties and therefore difficult to rate without comparison. The new method is based upon transmuting these constant properties into varying properties by radiating white noise from the test source and reproducing it via sweeping frequency modulation. Thus, irregularities of the response under test, even from below a masking envelope, can become emphasized to audibility.
