This paper describes an electronic device which monitors the R-wave portion of the ECG signal of the heart and provides an audible and/or visible indication of the rhythm and rate of the heart. The R-wave monitor obtains its output signal from the recorder output jack of an electrocardioscope and appropriates its energy from the dc level appearing at the recorder output jack.
