Three-Dimensional Microphone Array for Speech Enhancement in Hands-Free Systems for Cars

In this paper we propose a three-dimensional microphone array for speech enhancement in hands-free devices for cars, comparing its performance with linear and planar arrays with the same number of elements. We simulated a realistic environment considering driving noise, interfering speech coming from the loudspeakers, and reverberations. Furthermore, the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) and Linearly Constrained Minimum Variance (LCMV) beamforming techniques have been evaluated. Results show that the proposed array obtains a notably improvement of intelligibility comparing with the other arrays. Finally, the use of LCMV technique also improves the speech intelligibility, in detriment of the MVDR technique.
