A technique has been developed which allows visual analysis of the sound field created by the four channels by use of an oscilloscope. The oscilloscope display contains quadraphonic channel balance, phasing, separation, spread, and overall-directionality information. This technique should be of special interest to the recording engineer and anyone doing analysis of the various matrix systems. Analysis of a few representative displays, theory of the circuitry, and typical installation will be discussed.
