General-purpose internally compensated IC operational amplifiers with unity gain frequencies of 1 MHz have become an industry standard. Despite the attractiveness of these devices with the attendant applications, simplicity, and economy, the fact remains that in many situations they evolve serious tradeoffs in performance when universally applied. Better performance may be realized by applying IC operational amplifiers with the performance criteria for the specific application in mind. In this manner, such key parameters as slewing rate, gain-bandwidth product, power output, and input noise may be optimized as required.
