This study investigates the localization in a sound projection scenario using a realistic surround audio scene (street with traf?c noise). Real sound projectors, e.g., phased arrays, are characterized by a physically limited focusing ability. This leads to multiple sound propagation paths to the listener: direct sound via the shortest path and projected sound via re?ections. The spectral characteristic of the direct sound is varied in a listening test to simulate realistic directivity limitations at low and high frequencies. The attenuation of the direct sound at mid-range frequencies, which is just necessary so that the position of the auditory event is localized in the direction of the projection, is determined.
