Computer generation of pure tones plus filtered noise and its application to human audio detection is described. Noise may vary in pulse duration frequency, rms duration, envelope, center frequency, bandwidth shape, and in bandwidths from 0.001 to 2500 Hz. Human detection is found to depend not only on intensity ratios between noise and tone but on pattern differences as well.
