The results of a literature search to determine the methodology to conduct a community noise survey are presented. It was found that a wide range of methods are available to conduct such a survey. These methods range from deliberate simplicity to high sophistication. Essential electronic hardware and software are currently available and are capable of supporting any method chosen. Despite what may be termed a confusion of facts, the methodology has been determined. It is composed of three elements, 1) the physical properties of sound, 2) acoustics response of individuals, and 3) the individual scaled to the community level.
