Acoustical and Electroacoustical Arrangement for the Dynamically Focused Room

The performance of speech and music in rooms of spherical or cupola shape is very critical because of the formation of acoustical focal points. Such rooms are not suited for communications, except with the aid of electroacoustics. In this case, the real room enclosure has to be disregarded by fitting it out with sound-absorbing material and providing the loudspeakers at calculated positions and with special directional characteristics. Further measures are the preequalization in the tape recordings and the playback equipment. As an example, the German pavilion at Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan, is described, for which electronic space music in seven-track version had been especially adapted.
