The serial bit stream produced by a pseudo-noise (PN) generator has a high harmonic content which may be filtered by direct parallel sum selection from the PN register output. The result is a variable-timbre element for electronic music devices. A digital programmed clock source, a PN generator, and output analog signal processors when combined have potential for a low-cost music synthesizer apparatus. PN methods have other audio applications in both simple and complex computer-oriented systems.
