Requirements for wide acceptance of four channels are discussed. A system designed to meet these requirements is described. In this system, linear combination provides high isolation between signals in diagonally opposite loudspeakers, while crosstalk to adjacent speakers is reduced by a symmetrically applied varible gain function having a control voltage derived from the audio signal itself.
