This paper presents a pilot case study of an extended reality (XR) immersive networked music performance (NMP) system with a four piece rock band over a Local Area Network (LAN), which aimed to evaluate the effect of four avatar representations (1. no avatar, 2. wireframe, 3. preset, 4. personalised) on the sense of social presence in XR-NMP context. The technical design of the XR-NMP system is described, which integrates XR display, upper body tracking for avatar representation and immersive audio rendering of the virtual space. Qualitative data is collected from participants in a post-experiment interview, and initial results suggest the preference for personalised avatar representation. Additional outcome from the interview are then discussed to suggest future work in the field of social presence.
