Scalable Wave Field Synthesis System Implementation

This paper documents the process of conceiving, designing, implementing, and commissioning a wave field synthesis (WFS) system utilizing the audio-over-IP Dante protocol. The conception phase includes an analysis of alternative options, encompassing both complete systems and do-it-yourself approaches. The design phase is summarized with a focus on hardware selection, connectivity, and mounting strategies, as well as decisions regarding which components to purchase off-the-shelf and which to custom-build. The implementation phase details the system`s geometry, connection challenges, and the chosen software. The final section describes the commissioning of the system and provides a summary of the listening demonstration session. The paper concludes with a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the implemented WFS system against other potential methods, considering factors such as cost, required effort, convenience, and flexibility.
