Case Study on High Order Ambisonics Music Production: Music and Technology within an Ambisonics Framework Using Korean Traditional Instruments

This study explores immersive music production using fifth-order Ambisonics. We addressed challenges in project planning, musical expression, and technical constraints by creating the piece "The Borderless Space". We developed efficient workflows, applied recording and mixing methods with Korean traditional instruments, and ensured binaural compatibility. The piece won the gold prize at the 2023 IEM Student 3D Audio Production Competition, and the feedback highlighted areas for improvement. Additionally, we conducted a listening test to compare different audio formats in headphone environments and identified new challenges regarding compatibility across different monitoring environments.
