For the sake of greater record and magnetic tape sales appeal, it has become the practice of the recording industry to mix as many as 32 tracks down to the 2 or 4 required respectively for stereophonic or quadraphonic reproduction. To obtain recordings of the various instruments or band sections unmarred by signals from adjoining sources, portable flats or baffles and retractable partitions are used for sound isolation. It is the purpose of the paper to discuss the amount of sound attenuation as a function of frequency available from the various barriers employed in studios characterized by a relatively short reverberation period.
