In the past 20 years, there has been a substantial change in the technology available for sound reinforcement solutions. These changes have impacted the accessibility and types of solutions for deployment in common community spaces, whether they are academic, civic, or privately owned. Lessons learned and new features in the more recent innovations have changed deployment and ownership of these systems as well as how they are used and maintained by the average end users, advanced users, and technicians for multi-use facilities. In addition to the performance of the primary reinforcement system, there have been increased mandates and requirements to meet the needs of the hearing impaired as a required supplement to the primary reinforcement system, which drives peripheral requirements to augment those systems to make them inclusive to all patrons of a space. As new practices of design, implementation, and use are presented, some fundamental concepts are still relevant and acknowledged with the new paradigm sound system reinforcement. Subject matter will cover a range of topics including consideration for system components, strategies for physical integration, performance in regards to the acoustic environment, and interaction/coordination with other facilities systems for a holistic approach to the deployment of a sound reinforcement system with an integrated design approach.
