Free-field Frequency Response Synthesis with IMPro Measurement Data

Free-field directional frequency responses for the microphones contained within two smartphone devices were synthesized by combining acoustic measurements and simulations. The hybrid data were produced by combining boundary element simulation data with the measured pressure frequency responses of the devices` integrated microphones using the IMPro measurement method. The hybrid data were compared to measurement results to verify the quality of the generated directional responses. The comparison showed only minimal differences between the hybrid and measured magnitude and phase frequency responses. We conclude that the described synthesis method produces valid directional responses of an integrated microphone device.
