For tape recorders with low inertia spools, tape guides and capstans, new design criteria might be considered concerning the problem of achieving a constant tape speed across the magnetic heads. The advantages and disadvantages of different mechanical tape transport systems and the corresponding electronic control circuits will be discussed.
