A new technique has been found that utilizes a plane wave tube response in coordination with a free field response for a given axis to obtain the directivity factor of a commercial sound loudspeaker. Also discussed is an improved method of obtaining the directivity factor in the field, utilizing the critical distance method but eliminating the need of obtaining an appropriate absorption coefficient.
