This paper describes the functions and operations of three integrated circuit chips used in the QS vario matrix decoder. A phase discriminator, a control chip, and a matrix chip incorporate technology for full frequency response, low distortion, wide dynamic range, and high signal-to-noise ratio. As a circuit these chips decode QS and SQ encoded material and offer two quadrophonic synthesizer functions.
