The occupational requirements of many Audio Engineering Society (AES) members demand concentrated listening to sounds, often at very high intensities. Such environments of intense sound might cause a significant reduction in hearing for AES members as compared to a population not exposed to occupational noise. This prompted the Los Angeles Chapter of the AES to suggest that an audiometric survey be performed to assess, on an individual and group basis, the hearing level of AES members. The chapter, in conjunction with members of the Audiology Clinic of the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences, conducted such a program at the 51st Convention in Los Angeles in May, 1975. Initial results of the survey are reported and discussed in this paper.
