A new piecewise-linear generator permitting direct analog control of acoustic waveforms, the PL module, is shown to offer significant advantages in electronic music. A FORTRAN program, facilitating the computation of amplitude spectra for piecewise-linear waveforms, is used in discussing some of the properties of the PL module. Numerous applications to electronic music are suggested, beginning simply with generation of PL envelopes and waveforms.
