A Real-Time Regenerative Response Method of Equalizing a Sound System

A new method of sound system equalization uses a random noise signal to obtain a display on a real-time audio frequency spectrum analyzer while keeping the system within a few decibels of regeneration via a -live- system microphone. Benefits of this new technique include improved phase characteristics for the filter set with regard to the transducers and environment, clear identification of the regenerative frequencies with which the room interacts, and a naturally determined order of priority in the combining of filter sections. The method is used in both playback and sound reinforcement systems.
