The achievement of continuous real-time manual control over sound parameters is perhaps the most important problem currently facing electronic musical instrument designers. This paper reviews the -touch sensor- mechanisms that have been used in recent years. Next, the electrical and physiological properties of the human finger will be discussed. An experimental keyboard affording the performer touch control of three independent axes on each key will be illustrated.
