The development of analog and digital systems for quickly extracting pitch information from musical waveforms is discussed. Special emphasis is given to modeling of vibrating string with particular regard to its harmonic structure and amplitude behavior. A new pitch algorithm is developed which can be executed in real time with digital circuitry.
