Modern recording equipment has reached an unprecedented level of sophistication. Distortion, noise, and speed variations are presently at very low values, and dynamic range and frequency response are wider than ever. But what about our sophistication in the techniques for using the equipment? Much of the recorded evidence seems to show that the improved equipment does not automatically result in improved product.
