Power amplifier design is influenced more by available measurement technique than by considerations of the actual ability of the amplifier to handle the complex combination of signals and loads which it faces when playing music into a loudspeaker. In this paper, new measurement techniques are offered to extend the repertoire to include more complex signals and loads, thus bringing design into better alignment with reality. These areas include "matching" a power amplifier to its load, dynamic headroom, dynamic nonlinear load impedance, and asymmetrical waveform behavior.
