This paper presents the audio network used in Split, Yugoslavia in autumn 1979 to radio broadcast the Mediterranean games. We shall discuss in more detail the TPS-System (TPS stands for Audio Switching System as abbreviated in the Croatian language) used as a central switching system in the Technical Centre catering for the radio broadcasting of the Games. This system is a processor-controlled semiconductor audio matrix. It consists of two separate switching fields: a 2-wire audio T-field (T stands for audio in the Croatian language) and a 4-wire R-Field (R stands for technical consultation) plus a to R-Field associated conference-field. The system is controlled by three terminals, and there at these terminals takes place also the listening supervision of all the operations carried out. The system also provides the possibility to receive 1665 Hz calls upon the incoming lines in the R-field. The audio field includes 80 inputs and 64 outputs. Each single input can be connected to any output or more outputs simultaneously. Field correctness is constantly checked by a 100 kHz pilot signal. The R-field provides the possibility to connect 80 4-wire users. Only one-to-one connection mode is possible. This paper will also present some typical usages of the system, and experience gained with the system as used at the Games.
