The voltage response at the input terminals of a loudspeaker and the sound pressure response at the center of the diaphragm to an input step current are recorded in the form of an oscillogram or a YT plot. From this the elements of the equivalent electrical network and the force factor can be determined, and the derived parameters calculated. The method is well suited for on-line electronic data processing which would make the measurement a split-second matter. The force factor can, alternatively, be determined from a steady-state measurement of the input voltage and the sound pressure. Results from the method described and from a conventional steady-state method are compared. They differ by 5% at most, except for the values for the mechanical resistance, which are all higher for the transient method, by 10% on the average.
