The state of the art in quadraphonic broadcasting is reviewed and a compatable method for providing simultaneous 4-4-4 and 4-2-4 transmission is described. The authors demonstrate that the method is applicable to any arbitrary 4-2-4 system without compromise. The theoretical considerations were verified by assembling a code decoder and testing the system.
